Circular Economy

The circular economy is gaining traction as a sustainable business model that aims to keep resources in use for as long as possible, extract the maximum value from them while in use, and then recover and regenerate products and materials at the end of their service life. The tyre industry is one sector that can greatly benefit from adopting a circular economy approach.

Tyres are a major contributor to the global waste stream, with billions of tyres discarded each year. The traditional linear model of tyre production, which involves the extraction of raw materials, manufacture of new tyres, and disposal at the end of their useful life, is not only environmentally harmful, but also economically inefficient.

In contrast, the circular economy model for tyres involves reusing, repairing, and recycling tyres to extend their useful life and reduce waste. This can be achieved through a range of strategies, such as tyre retreading, which involves applying a new layer of rubber to a worn tyre to give it a new lease on life. Tyre retreading is a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to buying new tyres, as it reduces the need for raw materials and energy-intensive manufacturing processes.

The adoption of a circular economy model in the tyre industry has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, conserve resources, and create economic opportunities. It is important for businesses to consider the environmental and economic benefits of adopting a circular approach, and to work towards a more sustainable future for the tyre industry.
